Who We Are?
Our Story
St Aloysius College Scout Group forms part of the Malta Scout Assosiation and is one of the longest serving group on the island since 1916. The group offers with great success a high level of education and adventure to all its members.
Having opened in 1916, the scout group has a long history. It is the scout group in Malta with the longest continuous service, since it never closed or interrupted its meetings. During the Second World War, many College Scouts served in the armed forces and the local defense force. The Scout Association was awarded collectively the highest Scout honour, the Bronze Cross, in 1943.
The College Scout Group has an enviable record of participation in overseas camps and events. This began in 1920 when Malta was represented at the first World Scout Jamboree in Olympia, London. World Jamborees are held every four years in different continents. The College Group has been represented at most of the World Jamborees, including the most recent ones in Australia (1988), South Korea (1991), the Netherlands (1995), Chile (1999) and the Centenary Jamboree in the UK (2007). College Scouts have also attended various Regional Jamborees held in different countries such as the United States. In more recent times the Group has participated in a variety of youth exchanges with other countries, under the auspices of the E.U. Youth In Action Programme. these exchanges have taken us to a variety of countries including Ireland, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Lebanon, to name a few.
A prominent part of our group’s history is the strong link we have with the Royal Navy. This has been kept thanks to our former GSL John Mizzi, better known as Cubbie who regularly keeps in touch with the Captain of HMS Bulwark, our Group’s patron ship.
The Group is very active in the Scout Association and has often carried off the inter-island trophies for Scouting abilities. The Scouts perform various charitable activities during the year, the most notable being the help given to the Community Chest Fund over the Christmas and New Year Periods.
