Unveiling of Cubbie’s (John A. Mizzi) Monument.

Ever since the passing away of Cubbie last February the Scout Group and a number of  former scouts (led by Mr William Spiteri Bailey, Mr Mark Pizzuto, Capt. Reuben Lanfranco & Mr I Consiglio), have worked to see how best to honour Cubbie and his contribution to scouting at St Aloysius College.

After various deliberations it had been decided that we should install a bust of Cubbie at our HQ to remind us and future members of his dedication to the Group during his lifetime. This task was entrusted to local well known sculptor and artist Mr Gianni Pace. The bronze bust was ready by the beginning of October and put in place on Monday 7th October.

The official unveiling of the bust was organized for October 12th 2013. For the occasion the Group invited a number of former council members and former scouts besides the Chief Commissioner, Chief Scout, Central District GSLs and obviously its current members, friends and their families.

I am pleased to note that around two hundred persons attended for the event. Guests were greeted with a welcome drink and were then shown a brief presentation about Cubbie and the Group over the last sixty years.  Afterwards, the Group Scout Leader, Edward Cassola said a few words about Cubbie and his contribution to the Group over the last sixty-seven years.  Then, former member,  Mr Mark Pizzuto explained how the initiative to set up the bust evolved in the past months.

Following theses speeches the bust was blessed by Fr Rector  Jimmy Bartolo  and officially unveiled by the Group Scout Leader and Mr Pizzuto.

Guests were then treated to a reception ably handled by the Group scouters.

The Group and former members involved in the initiative would like to thank all those that supported us financially. Although we received numerous donations, unfortunately, these were not enough to cover the whole expense. Notwithstanding, the Group will carry on with its fundraising events in the future to make good for the difference
